TAKE ACTION

Protect Tennesseans against harmful policies that will make it harder to access basic necessities, and help us advocate for legislation at the local, state, and federal level that safeguards access to healthcare coverage and nutrition.

The Fallout of HR 1

In July 2025, Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) or H.R. 1, which inflicted unprecedented cuts to the health care and SNAP programs. Thousands of Tennessee families and children have already lost health coverage or food aid.  Many more will feel the impact as different parts of the bill take effect over the next year.

As H.R. 1 is being implemented and its effects measured, join TJC to keep up with changes to healthcare and food assistance. Check out the resources below to learn about the bill's harmful impacts and to stay engaged in the work to protect these programs

Bring Summer EBT to Food Insecure Families in Tennessee!

The Tennessee State Legislature approved funding for Summer EBT, but not until 2027, leaving children without support this summer when families are struggling now.

There is funding in 2027, but no commitment beyond a single year.

The S-EBT program provided money to support the families of 700,000 children to buy groceries during Summer 2024. After years of public outcry from parents, schools, faith leaders, county mayors, and non-profit organizations, Tennessee lawmakers have acknowledged the importance of addressing child hunger.

If lawmakers agree summer hunger is real, why not act now? Children can’t wait a year to eat!

Contact elected officials today. Do not let them ignore that Tennessee children will be hungry THIS summer.

In partnership with the Southern Economic Advancement Project (SEAP), TJC created county fact sheets to show how Summer EBT can help alleviate hunger and boost the economy in all 95 counties across the state!

Congress Must Fully Fund WIC!

Congress determines the budget for each fiscal year (FY) through the appropriations process. For the FY2027 budget, the House proposed cuts that would take nutritious food from 120,000 families. The House wants to cut overall WIC program funding and take dollars from families that are currently used to buy fruits and vegetables through the cash value benefit (CVB). This makes NO sense! Grocery prices are soaring and this is a successful program that supports the growth and development of moms and babies.

The budget bill will continue to move through the House and Senate, and fully funding WIC must be a priority. Please urge your congresspeople to support moms and babies and fully fund WIC.
