ANTI-HUNGER
Our mission is to end hunger in Tennessee by protecting and strengthening SNAP, WIC, and other child nutrition programs. We aim to educate and inform people about the federal nutrition programs through outreach materials, webinars, and our collaborative partner network. We also help with direct client services, where we identify program barriers so that we can ultimately advocate for solutions.

SUMMER EBT
Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program for Children (Summer EBT) was established as a permanent program starting in 2024. Summer EBT provides grocery-buying benefits to low-income families with school-aged children when schools are closed for the summer.
On February 14, 2025, the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) announced that the state will NOT opt into the federal Summer EBT program. Instead, they will spend $3 million to implement a limited version of the program, providing food assistance to children in just 15 counties. This decision excludes at least 675,000 children across 80 counties who will not receive critical support to help pay for groceries during the summer months as food prices continue to rise.

ANTI-HUNGER ADVOCACY
Medicaid & SNAP are in danger!
A budget plan with deep tax cuts will be adopted in the early part of 2025. To pay for those tax cuts, our elected officials intend to slash Medicaid (“TennCare” in Tennessee) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as “food stamps”). If that budget includes cuts to Medicaid and SNAP as leaders plan, Congress will likely cripple those programs and use the savings to pay for the big tax cuts.
Oppose Cuts to School Meals!
280,726 Tennessee school children are at risk of losing school meals and 598 Tennessee schools would see major cuts to funding school meals. Proposed federal budget cuts would reduce schools’ ability to provide free school meals to kids in TN through the Community Eligibility Provision (”CEP”) program.
Urge your legislators to oppose any cuts to school meals.
