LAW CLERK

Part-Time Position | Remote or in-person in Nashville, TN | Unpaid internship

For over 28 years, we at the Tennessee Justice Center (TJC) have been standing with Tennessee families and helping them access basic necessities of life. We believe that all our neighbors have value and dignity, that all deserve the opportunity to thrive, and that our laws and public policy should reflect these shared values. Every day our courageous team works hard on behalf of and in partnership with Tennessee individuals, families, and communities.

We are seeking law clerks to provide direct assistance to TJC’s litigation team. Responsibilities will include both casework tasks and litigation tasks.

Casework tasks will involve fielding calls from clients, drafting documents, performing intake interviews, and managing a client’s case towards resolution under the supervision of TJC’s attorneys. Litigation tasks will include legal research, legal writing and other tasks requested by the TJC’s attorneys. Through this opportunity you will learn about Medicaid law, the Food Stamp Act, and health and nutrition benefits programs and policies. You will gain experience in navigating administrative law and procedures.

This internship provides you valuable experience interacting with clients and governmental agencies. This internship will also give you insight into the process behind impact litigation. You will also have the opportunity to engage with our advocacy work and community outreach.

If you are interested in applying for outside funding for a future fellowship project with our organization (such as Equal Justice Works and Skadden) we highly recommend that you work as a legal intern with our office. This will allow you to have a better sense of what is needed in our communities so you may tailor your project proposal to meet that need.

To Apply: Summer 2025 positions are closed. We encourage applicants to check in regularly for updates and availability, as opportunities may open up throughout the year.
